CARPET CLEANING CHEMICALS
As the name suggests, Dry Chemical Carpet Cleaning is fairly dry. There is almost nothing wet involved. This method is great because it is quickly started, quickly finished, and quickly traversable again. It is good for virtually every type of carpet. It is usually best for high traffic places. But if used on its own, it should be used in places where children are unlikely to play on it, as some residue may remain.
The process of dry chem. cleaning is fairly simple. Where there is deep dirt and soil, a pre-conditioner is usually added to loosen the dirt so the chemicals can do their job properly, then the chemicals themselves are dusted into the carpet and then worked deeper with a brushing machine. To assure the mixture is fully worked into the carpet fiber, the brush is usually used a number of different times over the surface of the carpet in different directions. Next, a drying period takes place (usually no more than an hour, depending on the brand) and then the entire floor surface is vacuumed. This process should get almost all soils out of your carpet, but if not, the entire process can be repeated.
Like Dry Chemical Carpet Cleaning, Dry Foam is sometimes argued to not be an effective or practical way to clean carpets. But also, like Dry Chemical, it has definite advantages. For one, it is a dry procedure and renders a carpet useable again quickly and there is no rinsing involved. Actually getting the foam into the carpet can sometimes get tricky, though.
When using the cleaning foam technique, the first thing that should be done is a good, thorough vacuuming. Some recommend industrial vacuum cleaners to do this, but decently powerful vacuum can work just as well. The next step is to add a pre-conditioner to loosen the soil in the carpet. After that, the Foam machine comes in. The chemicals are mixed in and it creates foam, which is then worked across the carpet.
The tricky part about this is spreading the foam evenly over the entire carpet. Not only does it have to be even, but it also has to be the right amount of foam, not too much or too little, as either could adversely affect the outcome. It is also important to go with the grain of the carpet, not against it. Every push of the foam machine has to be going in that direction, which means turning the machine on at one end, pushing it straight across, turning it off and going back to the beginning to foam the area right next to it, in the same direction. When finished applying the dry foam, it must be allowed to dry before you extract it. When it dries, it will trap the soil in itself and pull easily out of your carpet when it is extracted.
